Notes: Joy was the second of the eight grandparents. Her earliest known Stevens ancestor was Henry, a farmer in Ash in Surrey who died in 1606. The family moved to Hale in the 17th Century, and then to Farnham in the 18th Century. They continued with their farming interests, but were also landowners, and from the 19th Century educated many of the sons into the professions. Joyce married Rev Cyril Francis CHASE, son of Rev Charles Henry CHASE and Dora Nichols Sankey STEVENS, on 28 Apr 1914 in St Andrew, Farnham, Surrey.1 (Rev Cyril Francis CHASE was born on 13 May 1884 in Ambleside, Westmorland 7 8, christened on 11 Jun 1884 in St Mary, Ambleside, Westmorland,9 died on 12 Oct 1965 in Corscombe, Dorset 10 and was buried on 16 Oct 1965 in St Mary the Virgin, Powerstock, Dorset 11.) |
