bullet  Notes:

Alfred (known as Harry) was the second of three sons, and lived at 62 Castle Street in Farnham. He qualified as an engineer but took over the family business as a farmer and hop grower, retiring around 1900. He served for many years as a churchwarden and member of the Farnham Board of Guardians.

Alfred had four daughters with his wife Lucy Thomas (qv), all brought up in Farnham and educated in Winchester. Ethel travelled to Saskatchawan in Canada in 1915 to visit her youngest sister Joy, where she met her future husband Frederick Evans, a pioneering farmer. They settled in Victoria on Vancouver Island after he lost his farm during the Depression. The second daughter Dorothy married Rev Edward Wells, who was first a schoolmaster, then served in WW1 as an Army Chaplain. After the War he was a Vicar in Hampshire - they retired to Woking in Surrey. The third daughter Gertrude married Captain James Pitcairn, Paymaster in the Royal Navy; and the youngest daughter was Joy (qv).
