bullet  Notes:

Henry was the younger of the two sons of Benjamin Nichols (qv), the proprietor of the Bush Inn in Farnham. Henry's birthplace is not known, although his mother died in Northington in Hampshire where his father was a 'yeoman' prior to moving to Farnham. Henry was a hop planter and wine and spirit merchant, and lived at 4 The Borough, and then at 4 Castle Street. He also purchased 5 Castle Street. He had four children with his wife Elizabeth Osmond (qv). Their two oldest sons John and Ben were twins: John was first an surgeon and apothecary in Basingstoke, and then a farmer in Seale in Surrey - he married his cousin Eliza Osmond but did not have any children. Ben was a solicitor at 5 Castle St, and a bachelor. The third son Henry took over his father's wine business at 4 Castle Street - Henry jnr married but also did not have any children. Henry snr's youngest child and only daughter was Eliza (qv), who married Alfred Stevens (qv), and their children were the Nichols family's main beneficiaries.
