bullet  Notes:

The younger of two sons, Benjamin was a merchant from Plymouth and was almost certainly engaged in the Iberian wine trade. He married Mary Denew (qv), the sister of his brother John's wife Elizabeth Denew. Benjamin lived with his family in El Puerto de Santa Maria (near Cadiz) in Spain from around 1688 to 1698, then settled in London. He, his wife and several of their children were buried in All Hallows Barking by the Tower, the church used by several of his Walloon relatives. It is clear from wills that several of his children had Presbyterian views.

Benjamin and Mary are known to have had 10 children. The eldest surviving daughter Elizabeth was born in London, outlived both her husbands, but did not have any children. Benjamin and Mary's next five children were born in El Puerto de Santa Maria and baptised by Chaplains from visiting British Warships. Leonora, the first of the five, married Rev Josiah Whately in London, but her husband and their only child died within a few years of her marriage. The next daughter Susanna died young. The only surviving son William died in London in 1715, soon after qualifying as a lawyer. The next daughter Judith died at the age of 32 as the widow of William Perkins, a grocer in the Parish of St Michael Queenhithe who died soon after their marriage. The next daughter Henrietta (qv) married William Whately (qv), the brother of her sister Leonora's husband Josiah. The two youngest daughters were born in London after the family's return from Spain - both died in their early 20s.
