bullet  Notes:

Known as William Yalden the younger, he was like his father a successful ironfounder and landowner. He supported the Parliamentarian cause, and is thought to have been acquainted with Oliver Cromwell who appointed him as High Sheriff of Sussex in 1656 - he was also MP for Petersfield in 1659. He survived the Restoration and was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Sussex in 1666.

William married his distant cousin Mary Ayling (qv) of Woolbeding in 1639, and had 10 children, four girls and six boys. Their four daughters all married: Margaret to Roger Shotter of Pitfold in Frensham; Mary to John Wakeford of Fernhurst, who died soon after their marriage; Elizabeth to George Osborne, also of Fernhurst; and Joanna (qv) who married John Stevens (qv) of Farnham. Their eldest son William inherited the family estate, which was passed down through his son Rev Richard Yalden of Ludgershall in Wiltshire. Their next son John was not mentioned in his father's will, so may have died young. Their four younger sons were all left substantial bequests in their father's will, but only three have been traced: Robert Yalden who was a mercer in Petworth, and died when he was only 30; Edmond Yalden who married Joan Mill, but died when he was 29 in London; and Nicholas Yalden of Fernhurst and Haslemere, who married Ann Gibson nee Foyden, a widow from Fittleworth, and had two daughters.
