bullet  Notes:

William was (probably) the eldest son of Robert Yalden of Lodsworth and Petersfield. He was the Land Agent for Magdalen College Oxford in Petersfield, and rented land and mills from the College at Sheet, a village to the north-east of Petersfield on the River Rother. He was most likely the Steward for Bramshott Manor Court between 1611 and 1625. In 1588 he married Dorothy Aylwin (qv) of West Dean in Sussex, and had five children. Their eldest daughter Margaret (qv) married her second cousin William Yalden (qv) of Blackdown in Sussex. Their eldest son Robert was educated at Magdalen College, trained as a barrister at the Middle Temple in London, and practiced as a lawyer in Petersfield. Their younger son William is only known through his baptismal entry. Their younger daughters were Dorothy who married Richard Ayling, but little more is known about him; and Mary who married Henry Strudwick of Hills Green in the Parish of Kirdford.

After William's first wife Dorothy died in 1605 he married again, to Rose Goodyer (qv) of Alton. They had four children. Their eldest daughter Joane died in infancy. Their next daughter Elizabeth married Francis Moss, but little more is known about them. Their only son Edmund was educated at Magdalen College, where he was a Fellow, then in 1642 became Rector of Compton in Surrey. He was ejected from his post during the Commonwealth when he is thought to have practiced medicine, knowledge picked up from his botanist uncle John Goodyer. Edmund married Katherine Ayling of Woolbeding and had five children. William and Rose's youngest daughter Anne married John Worlidge, a lawyer in Petersfield, and had 10 children: their eldest son John Worlidge was a notable 17th Century writer on agriculture, including Systema agriculturae or The Mystery of Husbandry Discovered (1669), Vinetum Britannicum or A Treatise of Cider (1676), Apiarum or A Discourse of Bees (1676), and Systema horti-culturae or The Art of Gardening (1677).

William's will has not been traced, but his inventory of 31 July 1644 describes him as a Gent of Sheet, and shows that he was a prosperous farmer.
