The youngest son, Alexander moved from his parents' home in Rayne to Aberdeen, where he was a baker and merchant, with business dealings as a coal broker and shipowner. He firstly married Elizabeth Thomson, the daughter of Rev John Thomson of Aberdeen, who died soon after the birth of their only son John - he married Ann Gray, daughter of Malcolm Gray (qv) of South Ronaldsay in Orkney, and emigrated to Melbourne in Australia. Alexander next married Margaret Spring (qv) from Aberdeen, and had another eight children. Their eldest daughter Margaret (qv) married John Gray (qv), Ann Gray's older brother. The next four children all died young. Their oldest surviving son George was a merchant in India, and their youngest son Gordon studied medicine, but died at the age of 27 soon after arriving in Melbourne. Neither son married. Their youngest daughter Isabella married Rev James Irvine from Orkney, who was Minister of the North Parish of South Ronaldsay.

Alexander married Elizabeth THOMSON on 12 Aug 1819 in St Nicholas, Aberdeen.1 (Elizabeth THOMSON was christened on 15 Nov 1794 in St Nicholas, Aberdeen,7 died on 23 Jan 1822 5 and was buried on 26 Jan 1822 in St Clement, Aberdeen 6.)

Alexander next married Margaret SPRING, daughter of Robert SPRING and Margaret GORDON, on 11 Jun 1826 in St Nicholas, Aberdeen.2 (Margaret SPRING was christened on 4 Aug 1801 in St Nicholas, Aberdeen,8 died on 11 Feb 1880 in Roeberry, South Ronaldsay, Orkney 9 and was buried in St Peter, South Ronaldsay, Orkney 10.)
