Elizabeth was only daughter of John Hammond, a farmer at Binscombe in Surrey. The Hammond family is known to have been farming in this area since the mid sixteenth Century. She married John Stevens (qv) in Aldershot, which was her mother's birthplace. She had six children, and was buried the same day as her youngest daughter Joanna was baptised.
