bullet  Notes:

John was the only son, and had one surviving older sister. He lived in Hale, between Farnham and Aldershot.

He married Elizabeth Hammond (qv), a farmer's daughter from Farncombe near Godalming, and had five surviving children. Their eldest son John remained in Hale, married Jane Manwaring the daughter of a Farnham landowner, and was probably the John Stevens of Hale who took a 20yr lease of Ash Manor in 1788. Their second son William was a tanner, and moved to Cowley in Middlesex where he married Mary Lightfoot from London. John snr's eldest daughter Elizabeth did not marry, and lived in Farnham. Their second daughter Mary married Stephen Smither, the son of a Coachmaster in Farnham who settled a property in Castle Street on their marriage, which became the Stevens family home up to the mid 20th Century. Their youngest son was James (qv).
