bullet  Notes:

John was the only son, and had one surviving older sister. He lived in Hale, between Farnham and Aldershot.

He married Elizabeth Hammond (qv), a farmer's daughter from Farncombe near Godalming, and had five surviving children. The eldest son John remained in Hale, married Jane Manwaring the daughter of a Farnham landowner, and was probably the John Stevens of Hale who took a 20yr lease of Ash Manor in 1788. The second son William was a tanner, and moved to Cowley in Middlesex where he married Mary Lightfoot who was from London. John snr's eldest daughter Elizabeth did not marry, and lived in Farnham. The second daughter Mary married Stephen Smither, the son of a Coachmaster in Farnham from whom he inherited a property in Castle Street, the Stevens family home for the next 200 years. The youngest son was James (qv).
