Jane HUGHES ¹

Jane was the eighth of the eight grandparents. Her earliest known ancestor was John Hughes, who is only known from the baptismal record of his son in Llanfair Talhaiarn in 1745. The next two generations were farmers in Gwytherin and Llangerniew parishes. Her father was also a farmer, but became a merchant in Llanrwst in the 1870s. These places are all in Denbighshire in North Wales.

Jane was the youngest daughter. Her mother died when she was 2yrs old, and she was brought up by her father and stepmother in Llanrwst. She married Reginald Balmer (qv) in Swinton in Lancashire, then moved to Disley, and after his death in 1933 moved with her two unmarried children to Stretford.

Jane married Reginald BALMER, son of Robert BALMER and Isabella PARKER, on 6 Oct 1897 in Methodist Church, Swinton, Lancashire.¹ (Reginald BALMER was born on 22 Jun 1871 in Soulby, Westmorland ⁴, christened on 12 Jul 1871 in St Luke, Soulby, Westmorland,⁵ died on 27 Oct 1933 in Disley, Cheshire ⁶ and was buried in Disley Parish Church, Cheshire ⁷.)
