Jane was the youngest daughter of William and Margaret Pritchard, who farmed at Bryn Gwian near the village of Pennant in the Parish of Eglwysbach. She changed her surname from Pritchard to Williams during the 1850s. She had seven children with her husband John Hughes (qv), and died 10 days after the birth of her youngest son John.
