Notes: The older of two sons, Michael was apprenticed to a silk mercer in Fenchurch St, and established his business at the age of 30 in High Holborn in London. He retired to Hampstead. He had four surviving children - three sons and a daughter - with his wife Sarah Lloyd (qv), all of whom married. Their eldest son James took over his father's business in Holborn, retired in his mid 40s to Brixton, and not having any children left most of his estate to his younger brother George. George was apprenticed to a farmer in the Isle of Ely, married his daughter, and moved to Hertfordshire where he farmed and brought up his family of five boys and five girls - his daughters all married professional men. George retired to Camberwell in Surrey. Michael married Sarah LLOYD, daughter of William LLOYD and Sarah ESSINGTON, on 29 Jun 1777 in St Mary Abchurch, London.1 2 (Sarah LLOYD was christened on 3 Mar 1749 in St Lawrence, Stroud, Gloucestershire,7 died on 4 Sep 1804 5 and was buried in Tottenham Court Chapel, Middlesex 5.) |
