bullet  Notes:

John was the youngest surviving son, and a whalebone merchant and haberdasher in Monkwell St in the City of London. He was only 34 when he died in 1726.

John married Mary Collman (qv) in 1709. They are known to have had seven children, a son and six daughters, but none of their baptisms have been traced - they may have been non-conformists. Their only son was named John, and is thought to have died young. Their eldest daughter Mary did not marry, and lived with her aunt Dame Sarah Egleton. Their next daughter Susanna married William Steers, a physician who lived in Nightingale Hall in Edmonton: they had 12 children, but only one grandchild, the son of their daughter Elizabeth who married Peter Warren, an insurance broker in London. Their next daughter Anne married Edmund Chauntrell, a grocer in the parish of St Alban Wood St in London: they had nine children but many died young and only one (Anne) married, to John Stokes who was a silkman in Cheapside.

Their next daughter Elizabeth is only known from bequests in wills. Next was Charlotte who married Edward Lambert, a wealthy fishmonger in Hoxton: they had seven children but their two married daughters were the only ones to have children, while their youngest son Charles Lambert was a lawyer in the Inner Temple, and an art collector of some note. John and Mary's youngest daughter was Sarah (qv) who married Rev Michael Marlow (qv).
