Helen OREM
(1693-) |
Helen OREM 2
Notes: Helen was the elder daughter of William Orem (qv) and Jean Black. Her father lived next to the Grammar School and was friendly with her future husband John Scollay (qv) who was schoolmaster there. Six years after they were married in 1713 John was ordained and they moved to Stronsay. She did not like the location of the manse and would have preferred to live on the ridge with views over the sea - just above the Scollay family home of Hunton - and the site became known as 'Orem's Fancy'. Helen married Rev John SCOLLAY, son of Malcolm SCOLLAY and Barbara ELPHINSTONE, on 13 Dec 1713 in Kirkwall And St Ola, Orkney.1 (Rev John SCOLLAY was born in Hunton, Stronsay 4, christened on 6 Oct 1686 in Kirkwall And St Ola, Orkney 5 and died in May 1741 6.) |
