John WATTS
(1602-1656) |
John WATTS 2
Notes: John was the younger son, but his will shows that he was a wealthy man when he died in 1656. He had married Susan Watts (qv) in 1631, the only daughter of William Watts of Benenden, so it is likely that at least some of his wealth was acquired through his marriage. John and Susan had 10 children. Their eldest daughter married George Tilden of Tenterden. Their eldest son William died when he was 19. Their next son John was the main beneficiary in his father's will, including the family home 'Sponden' in Sandhurst, which still exists: John's son William moved to Glynde in Sussex where he was the Steward for the Glynde Estate. John married Susan WATTS, daughter of William WATTS and Susanne READER, on 25 Aug 1631 in St George, Benenden, Kent.1 (Susan WATTS was christened on 8 Mar 1612 in St George, Benenden, Kent 1 and was buried on 17 Apr 1674 in St Nicholas, Sandhurst, Kent 3.) |
