William was the younger son, and was born in Altofts in the Parish of Normanton. He settled in Hall Green in the Parish of Sandal Magna, where he was a farmer. He had three children with his wife Jane Saile (qv): Mary who married John Watson, a farmer in Woolley; Ann (qv) who married John Pitch (qv); and John who died in childhood.
