John is only known from the baptism of his six children (three boys and three girls) in the Parish Church of Wirksworth. They were all born in Callow, a hamlet in a lead mining district between Wirksworth and Kirk Ireton. The eldest son William married Anne Rivington in South Wingfield, and remained in Wirksworth Parish. Their eldest daughter Ann married Robert Whitworth, a widower of Ilkeston, and has not been traced after her marriage in 1745. Their next son was John (qv) who moved to Hopton in the neighbouring parish of Carsington. Their youngest son James married Jane Beighton of Alderwasley, and also remained in Wirksworth Parish. Their two youngest daughters Ellen and Jane are only known from their baptism records.
