Notes: The fifth son of nonconformist parents, Watts was brought up in London and educated at Worcester College Oxford. He lived in Hoxton Square in Shoreditch - the property was probably obtained through his wife's family - and was a licensed lecturer in the City for over 60 years. In 1780 he succeeded his father-in-law Michael Marlow as Chaplain of Aske's Chapel. His portrait is in the National Portrait Gallery. Watts married Elizabeth MARLOW, daughter of Rev Michael MARLOW and Sarah KENT, on 2 May 1780 in St John, Hackney, Middlesex.1 2 (Elizabeth MARLOW was born on 20 Jan 1756 8, christened on 15 Feb 1756 in All Saints, Nazeing, Essex,9 died on 18 Oct 1837 in Hoxton, Middlesex 10 11 12 and was buried on 26 Oct 1837 in Bunhill Fields Burial Ground, City Rd, Middlesex 12.) |
