Ann was the seventh child of Samuel Taylor (qv), a farm labourer in Great Bentley. At the time of the 1861 Census she was living at home, working as a housemaid. Later that year she had a daughter Clara (qv) with her cousin Maurice Taylor (qv). Ann then worked as a cook with families in Colchester and Lexden, and finally lived with her married daughter in Colchester as a housekeeper, up to her death at the age of 78.
