William was the son of Richard and Mary Williams of Llanllechid in Caernarvonshire. He married Margaret Griffiths (qv) in the Llanllechid Parish Church in 1819, but all of their children were baptised in the Parish Church of Eglwysbach in Denbighshire. William was a farmer of between 100-200 ac at Bryn Gwian, 2 miles to the SE of Eglwysbach village. He left money and property to his surviving children when he died in 1875.
William and Margaret had eight children, who changed their surname from Pritchard to Williams in the 1850s. Their eldest son William died young. Their next son Griffith took over the farm at Bryn Gwian, and retired in the 1880s to Barmouth in Merionethshire, where he was a lodging house keeper with his wife Ann Lloyd. Their eldest daughter Sarah married twice: firstly to Owen Owens, a farmer; and secondly to Hugh Hughes, a slater. Their next son William was a farmer in Gwytherin, and retired with his wife Ellinor Owen to Llanbeblig in Caernarvonshire. Their next son Mary married Evan Hughes, a farmer at Iwrwg near Eglwysbach. Their next son Richard was a farmer and gardener who moved to Colwyn Bay in the 1880s with his wife Phoebe Davies. Their youngest son Richard worked on his father's farm, and did not marry. Their youngest daughter was Jane (qv).
