Notes: The Gibbon family is thought to have owned land at the Hole in Rolvenden in the early 14th Century; by the 16th Century they were wealthy landowners and clothiers in this and nearby parishes. Robert Gibbon, who died in 1547, had four children with his first wife, whose name in unknown. Their two sons were John who inherited his father's clothmaking workhouse in Rolvenden, and had six children with his wife Agnes; and Jarvis (qv) of Benenden. One of their two daughters is only known through her daughter Elizabeth Adams, and their other daughter Agnes married John Bocher, and had six children. Robert married again to Margaret Ward; they had a daughter Elizabeth who married John Hubbard, and had five children. Robert married Unknown. Robert next married Margaret WARD. (Margaret WARD was buried about 1548 in St Mary the Virgin, Rolvenden, Kent 2.) |
