William was probably the eldest surviving son, and inherited property in Salford from his parents. His will shows that he was a farmer, and owned several properties in Salford when he died in 1698. He had four children with each of his two wives. The name of his first wife is not known: they had three sons and one daughter. Their two eldest sons Ralph and William were their father's joint executors and main beneficiaries - Ralph remained in Salford while William moved to Windrush in Gloucestershire.
