John was a crofter at Bograxie in the Parish of Chapel of Garioch. He had six children with his wife Jean Murray (qv). Their eldest daughter Elizabeth married Colin Morgan, a hand loom weaver in Inverurie and Old Machar in Aberdeen. Their eldest son John (qv) also lived in Old Machar, where he was a baker. Their next daughter Janet married George Mitchell, a farmer in the parish of New Machar in Aberdeen: she returned to Bograxie to live with her widowed mother after her husband died in the 1840s. Their youngest daughter Ann married Robert Mearns, a crofter in Bourtie. Their next son William was a farmer, at Monymusk, Bograxie and lastly of 60ac at North Camaloun near Fyvie: William had two children with his first wife Elizabeth Berry, and eight with his second wife Mary Davidson. John and Jean's youngest son George died when he was 20. ![]() John married Jean MURRAY on 15 May 1796 in Monymusk, Aberdeenshire.1 (Jean MURRAY was born in 1773 in Chapel of Garioch, Aberdeenshire,5 died on 20 Dec 1854 4 and was buried in Chapel of Garioch Kirkyard, Aberdeenshire 4.) |
