Richard THOMAS 2
- Christened: 27 Jun 1736, St Nivet, Lanivet, Cornwall 3
- Marriage (1): Elizabeth ANSTIS on 18 Jul 1763 in St Nivet, Lanivet, Cornwall 1
Richard was the younger of two sons of a tinner in Lanivet. His occupation is not known. In 1763 he married Elizabeth Anstis (qv), and moved a few years later to Lostwithiel, where most of their children were baptised.
Four of their nine children are known to have survived to adulthood. The eldest was John (qv), a builder, so it is possible that Richard was also a builder. The next was Elizabeth, who married John Scott and moved to Paddington in London, where John was a butcher. The third was Grace who married Charles Jenkin, a basket maker in St Austell: their sons were also basket makers. Richard's youngest son William is thought to have been killed in the Bombardment of Algiers in 1816.
