bullet  Notes:

Michael was presumably brought up in Wokingham in Berkshire, where his father was a tanner. He inherited land at Hurst from his brother Clement, and was either an overseer or beneficiary in the wills of his mother and two of his brothers. He was a Puritan, but his occupation is not known. At least some of his children were born in Wokingham, but he must have moved to London towards the end of his life, as he was described as "Gentleman of Goodman Fields in Whitechapel" in his will.

Michael is known to have had two sons and three married daughters. His eldest son John was an apothecary in London, who had one surviving daughter Elizabeth from his first marriage: her first husband was John Newcombe, an apothecary who had been apprenticed to her father. His younger son was Michael (qv). His three daughters were Ann, Huldah and Elizabeth, known from the wills of their father Michael snr and brother John, but little more is known about them.
