bullet  Notes:

Robert was like his father a fisherman in Newton by the Sea, and had seven children with his wife Eleanor Wright (qv). Their eldest son was probably Robert (although his baptism has not been found) and was also a fisherman in Newton - his four sons were fishermen in Newton and Seahouses in North Sunderland, further up the Northumberland coast. Their eldest daughter Eleanor (qv) married James Thompson (qv), a mason. Their next daughter Margaret has not been traced after her baptism, and their next daughter Jane, who was the housekeeper at Newton Hall in 1851, died from tuberculosis when she was 35. Their two youngest daughters were Mary Ann who married Robert Wilson, a mason who became Keeper of Warkworth Castle; and Isabella who was a dressmaker and died in her early twenties. Their youngest son Thomas moved to Seahouses in North Sunderland, where he was firstly a fisherman, and then a boatman serving the Farne Islands - his six surviving sons from two marriages were either fishermen or coopers in the fish trade.
