The eldest daughter of a fisherman in Newton by the Sea, Eleanor brought up her two children in Howick St in Alnwich after her husband James Thompson (qv) left for Australia. She was described as a nurse in the 1871 and 1881 Censuses. She retired to Warkworth, where she helped bring up her grandson James after her son James died in 1882.
