bullet  Notes:

John was the second of three sons, and was born in Callow, a hamlet between Wirksworth and Kirk Ireton. In 1741 he married Deborah Taylor (qv) in the neighbouring parish of Carsington, where they raised their family of seven children (three boys and four girls). The youngest five are known to have been born in Hopton near Carsington, and all except one married and had children.

Their eldest son James married Sarah Beardsley who was also from Carsington, but he died just one year after the birth of their only child. Their eldest daughter Hannah married George Briddon, a blacksmith in Hopton; and their next daughter Deborah married Joseph Lomas. Their second son was Francis (qv). Their next daughter Martha is only known from her baptism record; and their youngest daughter Ruth married George Smith, and raised their family in Hopton. Their youngest son John married Patience Mather of Kirk Ireton, and raised their family in the Parish of Carsington.
