The youngest surviving son, Stephen worked as a farm labourer in St Osyth, then in his 40s became a farm bailiff in Great Holland and Great Bentley. He and his wife Sophia Gentry (qv) had nine children, six surviving to adulthood. The eldest of the six was Elizabeth, who was a servant in London before she married George Nunn, a farm labourer and machine operator in Great Bentley: several of their children joined the Suffolk Regiment in WW1. Next was Frederick, who was a labourer and gardener in Frinton-on-Sea: he married but did not have any children. Next was Martha, who married William Partridge, a milkman in Great Holland., and had eight children. Their next son was Stephen (qv). Their next daughter Anna married William Smith, a carpenter and then a packer for the Great Eastern Railway at Dovercourt: they had four children. Their youngest son Edgar was a painter and handyman who married Kate Alston, the daughter of a cabinet maker in Sudbury: they had three sons. ![]() Stephen married Sophia GENTRY, daughter of Thomas GENTRY and Sarah SADLER, on 6 Sep 1851 in St Peter and St Paul, St Osyth, Essex.1 (Sophia GENTRY was christened on 1 Jan 1832 in St Peter and St Paul, St Osyth, Essex,6 died on 10 Sep 1900 in Great Holland, Essex 7 and was buried on 15 Sep 1900 in All Saints, Great Holland, Essex 8.) ![]() Stephen next married Diana SMITH on 10 Mar 1901 in All Saints, Great Holland, Essex.2 (Diana SMITH was born on 20 Mar 1844 in Colchester, Essex 9 10 and died on 8 Jan 1911 in Great Holland, Essex 11.) |
