  • Marriage (1): Ann HOWSON on 6 Jun 1678 in All Hallows London Wall, London 1
  • BuriedMale: 17 Mar 1727, St Mary, Ewell, Surrey 3

bullet  Notes:

Thomas was a Tinplate Worker and citizen of London, and described himself in his will as a Gentleman of Ewell in Surrey, where he was buried. His ancestry is uncertain. His father, also thought to have been named Thomas, could have been the Thomas who was baptised in Ewell in 1623. This link is supported by the Ewell connection; he also mentions a cousin from Ewell in his will, and owned a property in the nearby town of Mitcham. However, there was another Thomas who was the son of Thomas Umfreville and Jane Hyde of Hurst in Berkshire, baptized in St Olave Silver St in London in 1626, and the great-grandson of William Umfreville of Isleworth. This link is supported by his connection to London, and he was known to several of William's descendants, including a witness to his will. Also, William's granddaughter Jane named him in her will (Thomas owed 150 to her), identified his wife Ann as her cousin, and gave small bequests to two of their daughters, so this ancestral line has been assumed here.

Thomas and his wife Ann Howson (qv) had six children, all baptized at St Katherine Cree in London. Four of the children married. Their eldest son Thomas was a silk thrower in Whitechapel, married twice, and was buried in Ewell: his eldest son Henry was also a silkthrower, and a Quaker. Thomas snr's next child was Anne (qv) who married Michael Marlow (qv). The younger daughter Jane married Daniel Dissell, a plumber in Westminster. The younger son Henry was a mercer in London, but died in his early 30s in St Christopher in the West Indies - his widow Elizabeth later married her brother-in-law Michael Marlow. Thomas snr left his property in Spitalfields and elsewhere to his children.
