Notes: James farmed at Roeberry in South Ronaldsay, and married Ann Scollay (qv), the daughter of David Scollay of Kirkwall. They had six chidren. Their eldest and youngest daughters Isabella and Jane did not marry, and lived at Roeberry Farm and then nearby at Quindry. Their second daughter Barbra married James Cromarty, variously described as Proprietor of Blanster and fish curer of Sandwick. James and Ann's eldest son John died in his 20s. Their other daughter Euphemia married James McCulloch, an exciseman in South Ronaldsay, and retired to Quindry after her husband died. The youngest son was Malcolm (qv). James married Ann SCOLLAY, daughter of David SCOLLAY and Euphemia BALLENDEN, on 3 Jul 1777 in Kirkwall And St Ola, Orkney.1 (Ann SCOLLAY was born in 1751 in Kirkwall, Orkney 2 and died on 18 Mar 1784 in Roeberry, South Ronaldsay, Orkney 2.) James next had a relationship with Catherine LAUGHTON. (Catherine LAUGHTON was born in 1777 in South Ronaldsay, Orkney 6 and died on 6 Feb 1863 in Quindry, South Ronaldsay, Orkney 7.) |
