The only son, Richard was the first of three generations of innkeepers and property owners in Stroud. The Inn was identified as the Golden Heart in his son and grandson's wills. He and his wife Sarah Ockford (qv) had four sons. The eldest was Richard, but he died in childhood. The next was William (qv). The two youngest sons, John and Richard, both inherited property in their father's will.
