John AYLING
(-Est 1546) |
John AYLING 1
Notes: At the time of the dispute over his father John's estate in 1516 John jnr was a weaver in Terwick, although his will of 1546 indicates that he was a farmer. In addition to his wife Margery (qv) he identified 11 children in his will, probably from two marriages. Four of his sons inherited his property: John (the elder), who inherited Redsoll, which was later leased to John's brother Richard; Richard who inherited Thornlands, and was also his father's executor; Robert who inherited part of Thornlands; and Roger who inherited the remainder of the property which was bequeathed to John's wife Margery. John's four younger sons were John (the younger), William, Nicholas and Thomas (qv), who were given livestock, mostly sheep. It is likely that Margery was the mother to these four younger sons. His two daughters were Dorothy, who subsequently married a Mr Lye, and Alice who married a Mr Andrews. He had another son whose name cannot be read clearly in his will - possibly Hindy. John married Unknown. John next married Margery. (Margery was buried on 14 Feb 1574 in St Bartholomew, Rogate, Sussex 2.) |
