William WOLLASTON 2
Notes: William was the son and heir of Henry Wollaston, a wealthy draper in London, and his first wife Sarah Burgis. He inherited extensive landholdings in Staffordshire including Oncote Manor, where he settled after his father's death in 1616. Oncote did not suit him, so he bought Shenton Manor in Leicestershire in 1626, which he rebuilt in Jacobean style in 1629. He was appointed High Sheriff of Leicestershire and Staffordshire, and purchased additional estates in Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Suffolk. He was considered to be a good landlord, and was thought to have had Royalist sympathies. William married Anne WORSLEY on 6 Mar 1614 in St Mary Le Strand, Westminster.1 (Anne WORSLEY was buried on 17 May 1616 in St Michael and All Angels, Tettenhall, Staffordshire 6.) William next married Anne WHITGREVE on 20 Dec 1616 in St Mary Le Strand, Westminster.1 (Anne WHITGREVE was born in 1599,3 died on 16 Feb 1630 3 and was buried on 18 Feb 1630 in St John the Baptist, Shenton, Leicestershire 5.) |
