Edward was one of the sons of James Cok, Minister in Sanday. Edward was a wealthy merchant in Kirkwall, a Baillie from 1627,and was appointed to the Committee which was responsible for keeping law and order during the Interregnum. He married Margaret Baikie, and had a daughter Jean (qv).
