bullet  Notes:

Rene is thought to have been the second son of Paul and Madelaine Turquand, and was a sugar refiner. He probably emigrated to England in his early 20s, prior to his first marriage in Spitalfields in 1716 to Lea Pallardy (qv), when he was a resident of St Martins in the Fields. They had one daughter Louisa (qv), who married Michael Compigne (qv), a silversmith in Seven Dials.

Rene next married Catherine Morin, a Huguenot refugee, and had nine children, four of whom are known to have survived to adulthood. Their eldest daughter Mary married her cousin Paul Turquand, also a sugar refiner, and had seven children including Leonard Turquand, the main author of the Turquand family history. Their younger daughter Martha married Abraham Ogier, a silk merchant and notary, and had 11 children. Their eldest son John was a sugar refiner, and did not marry. Their younger son Paul was educated at Winchester College, and after working as a teacher in South Carolina returned to England to be ordained in the Anglican Church, then moved back to Charleston in South Carolina where he was an Episcopalian Minister: he married three times.

After the death of Rene's second wife Catherine in 1754 Rene retired to Southampton, where he married a widow Jane Maingett nee Boucles. He died in Browns Lane in Spitalfields at the age of 82.
