Samuel was the elder son, and founder of the family business Samuel Chase and Sons in Luton ('apothecaries, man-midwives and surgeons'), and was one of the Bedfordshire Inspectors for the Foundling Hospital in London. He owned extensive land and property in Luton and elsewhere when he died in 1803.

He and his wife Elizabeth (qv) had seven children who survived infancy. His three sons were all surgeons: Samuel (qv) who predeceased him; Daniel who practiced in Kings Norton in Worcestershire and whose son John who was also a surgeon and apothecary; and John who practiced in Luton, married Frances Bricheno the daughter of a grocer, and had a large family including three sons Henry (brewer), Edward (doctor) and Frederick (lawyer). Samuel and Elizabeth's three surviving daughters all married and had children: Elizabeth to William Goldsmith of Luton who was High Sheriff of Bedfordshire in 1784; Sarah to Thomas Sibley of Chiltern Green near Luton; and Frances to Robert Barker of Walton-on-Thames.
