bullet  Notes:

John was the eldest son: his father settled land and property in Binscombe, Godalming and Compton on him for his marriage to Alice Mellersh in 1592. They had one son John (qv), baptised in Guildford, but Alice died soon afterwards. John snr's second wife was Alice Harding; they also had children but little is known about them apart from their entries in the Godalming baptism register. John snr was listed as a billman in the Surrey Musters of 1592 and 1596. His son Richard may have been the Rich Hammond who was a member of Capt Quennell's troop that was disbanded in 1642 i.e. a Royalist supporter.
