bullet  Notes:

He was his father's executor, inherited Monkton where he was a farmer, and owned other properties in West Dean and nearby parishes. He had six daughters with his wife Margaret (qv). Their eldest daughter Joan probably died in infancy. Their next daughter Agnes married William Aylwin in 1587, the year he Richard died: William was presumably a cousin of Agnes, and their son Richard eventually inherited the lease of Monkton. Three of their next four daughters married sons of Robert Yalden (qv) of Petersfield: Dorothy (qv) who was the first wife of William Yalden (qv), a land agent in Sheet near Petersfield; Elizabeth (qv) who was the first wife of Crysophilus Yalden (qv) of Ropley in Hampshire; and Alice who was the first wife of Martin Yalden, a prosperous alderman in Winchester. Their other daughter Ann married Thomas Tyrell, but little more is known about him.
