bullet  Notes:

John was the eldest son of Thomas Cranmer of Aslockton, and the brother of Thomas Cranmer who became the first Protestant Archbishop of Canterbury in 1533. John was just 14 years old when his father died in 1501, and presumably became a landowner and farmer. He firstly married Joan Fretchville (qv); they had one son Thomas (qv). He secondly married Margaret Fitzwilliam of Haddlesey in Yorkshire, and had two more children. Their son Richard was a tenant farmer in Aslockton, and had six children with his wife Alice. Their daughter Susanna married three times: to a Mr Clerke; to Thomas Brooke, who was Steward to the Household of Archbishop Cranmer; and to Anthony Vaughan, the illegitimate son of Sir Hugh Vaughan of Littleton in Middlesex.
