bullet  Notes:

There is some uncertainty over John's name. His surname was changed from Pitch to Pitchforth in the Sandal Magna marriage register, and his eldest son was given the name Pitch in the baptism register. Otherwise he used the name Pitchforth - apart from the burial register which had him as Pitchford. Prior to his marriage in 1760 there were two entries for Pitch in the parish register - Joseph and Thomas, both colliers - but no entries for Pitchforth.

John lived in Westside in Crigglestone, a few miles south of Wakefield in Yorkshire, and was a collier. He had four surviving children with his wife Ann Addy (qv), two sons and two daughters, all of whom married and had children. The eldest son John moved to Wakefield where he was an innkeeper and property developer, and where his three sons were tradesmen. John and Ann's eldest daughter Ann married Joseph Charlesworth, a shoemaker: their children were all baptised in Sandal Magna, but Ann and Joseph were buried in Stanley, to the north of Wakefield. The next daughter Jane (who was baptised as Mary) married John Warwick, a labourer in Hall Green near Crigglestone. Jane was a shopkeeper after her husband died in 1840, but was a pauper at the time of the 1851 Census, nine years before her death at the age of 94. The youngest son was Joseph (qv).
