Little is known about Thomas apart from entries in Parish Registers. His family has been traced back to the middle of the 16th Century in Church Knowle, a village in the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, where they were presumably farmers. Thomas was the last of his family to be baptised in Church Knowle - his younger siblings were all baptised in Corfe Castle. He had five children with his wife Sarah Clarke (qv), three daughters and two sons. Their eldest son John (qv) moved to Warminster and then to Reading; and their younger son James moved to Islington, and worked for the Bank of England.
