Thomas UMFREVILLE
(-1727) |
Thomas UMFREVILLE 2
Notes: Thomas was a Tinplate Worker and citizen of London, and described himself in his will as a Gentleman of Ewell in Surrey, where he was buried. His ancestry is uncertain. His father, also thought to have been named Thomas, could have been the Thomas who was baptised in Ewell in 1623. This link is supported by the Ewell connection; he also mentions a cousin from Ewell in his will, and owned a property in the nearby town of Mitcham. However, there was another Thomas who was the son of Thomas Umfreville and Jane Hyde of Hurst in Berkshire, baptized in St Olave Silver St in London in 1626, and the great-grandson of William Umfreville of Isleworth. This link is supported by his connection to London, and he was known to several of William's descendants, including a witness to his will. Also, William's granddaughter Jane named him in her will (Thomas owed £150 to her), identified his wife Ann as her cousin, and gave small bequests to two of their daughters, so this ancestral line has been assumed here. Thomas married Ann HOWSON, daughter of John HOWSON and Unknown, on 6 Jun 1678 in All Hallows London Wall, London.1 (Ann HOWSON was born Of in Peterborough, Northamptonshire 4 and was buried on 19 Jun 1733 in St Mary, Ewell, Surrey 3.) |
