The only son, Michael obtained his BA from Bracenose College Oxford in 1731 when he was 20, and his MA from Christ College Cambridge in 1740. Little is known of his early career. He married Sarah Kent (qv) when he was 39, and soon after was appointed Vicar of Nazeing in Essex, and later Rector of Freston and Lackford in Suffolk. These posts were obtained through his wife's family connections. He was also Chaplain of Askes Hospital in Hoxton for 22 years from 1757. He died at the age of 84 at his house in Bache's Row in Hoxton.
Michael had four surviving children with his wife Sarah. The two eldest daughters Sarah and Mary Ann did not marry. The younger daughter Elizabeth (qv) married Rev Watts Wilkinson (qv). Their only son Michael jnr obtained a scholarship from the Merchant Tailor's School to St John's College Oxford, where he became a Fellow. After receiving his DD in 1795 he was appointed President of the College, and held the post until he died in 1828. He was also Vice Chancellor of the University for four years from 1798, and Rector of Handborough near Oxford. He married, but did not have any children.
