It is not known if Samuel had any siblings. He may have had a haulage business in Luton, and was involved with the Baptist Church there for many years, where he became more prominent after the death of the first Pastor Thomas Marsom in 1729. He left land and property to his second wife Bridget when he died in 1758.
He had two sons with his first wife Mary Downer. His older son was Samuel (qv), many of whose descendants entered the professions. His younger son Daniel was a brewer of Tottenham and Wellingborough who owned extensive property in Middlesex and Essex when he died in 1801. Daniel is known to have had eight children of whom six married, mostly in Tottenham: his eldest son George became Controller of Customs in Pembroke in Wales.
