Rev Robert BLUNT 1
Robert was probably baptised in St Nicholas Newcastle upon Tyne in 1625 as the son of Robert Blunt (the date and place fits). He was educated at Trinity College Cambridge, and appointed vicar of Kirkharle in Northumberland. He was ejected on the grounds of non-conformity in 1662, and subseqently set up a Presbyterian congregation at Great Bavington, 3km to the SW of Kirkharle. He continued to be persecuted by the authorities, but preached in private houses, mostly without a license, and finally settled in Horsley where he preached until his late 80s. Robert married Elizabeth. (Elizabeth died in Horsley, Northumberland 5 and was buried on 26 Apr 1710 in St Mary the Virgin, Ovingham, Northumberland 6.) |
