Notes: William Gray is thought to have come from the North of England. He served under William FitzWilliam, the 1st Earl of Southampton, and through him acquired land in Heyshott in Sussex in recognition of his military service. His son and heir was Edmond (qv), and he may also have had a daughter Mabel, who was involved in a breach of promise case in Heyshott in 1572. William married Margaret BRADBRIDGE. |
