His eldest son Charles was educated at Magdalen College at Cambridge, and was ordained in 1620. He was Rector at Great Hannay in Essex amongst other parishes, but had Royalist sympathies and was sequestered in 1642. He was imprisoned, and subsequently lived in poverty in Sandford on Thames where his three children were born, and Iffley, both near Oxford. He was restored to his post in 1660.

Richard's other children were Katherine who married a Mr Streatly; Richard jnr who was employed by Charles II (as Conservator for the Wey Navigation?); Susannah (qv); Thomas who was one of the Chief Constables of Woking; and Frances.
