Philip was a property owner at Waterhouses in the Parish of Asby, and was presumably a farmer. He named six children in his will of 1688. He left his property at Waterhouses to his eldest son Robert; and his property named Fellhead, close to Waterhouses, to his next son Thomas. He left money to his next two sons Matthew and William - Matthew was a schoolteacher at Ravenstonedale, but died when he was just 33. Philip appointed his two daughters, Margaret and Jane (qv) as his executrixes. Philip's wife Jane died six years before him.
