John WATTS 1
John Watts of Benenden in Kent was a clothmaker, which is how the family established its wealth. There was also a Watts family in the nearby village of Sandhurst, which was probably related, and there were links through marriage between the two families in later generations. John's children included Avys, who was probably the Alice Watts who was the second wife of William Watts (qv) of Sandhurst. John's son Thomas was an ironmonger in London, whose will of 1548 identified several of his relatives. John's son William (qv) lived in Benenden, and John's daughter Thamosin married Robert Water.
John married Joan. (Joan died after 1547 2.)
